Four Seasons, Bali, Jimbaran Bay
Day 1
I arrived at the Ngurah Rai International Airport around 3:30 in the afternoon, where a driver from the Four Seasons Resort at Jimbaran Bay met me. It was a short four-mile ride. The resort is made up of 147 villas that are clustered into seven “villages.” The village chief greeted me and offered to be of any assistance during my stay. My villa was wonderful. It was elegant and spacious and had an amazing view of the bay, the sea, and the sacred Mount Agung. The private pool and the living room both offered a view. The bathing pavilion featured double sinks and luxurious bath tubs and opened into a private garden and a secluded outdoor shower.
I got settled in and rested by the pool before heading out to Warung Mie for dinner. They offer a selection of exotic Asian noodle dishes and a spectacular view of the water garden. After dinner it was time to get some rest for the day ahead of me.
Day 2
I woke up around sunrise this morning and had breakfast by the pool after a short swim to get the sleep out of my eyes. After breakfast I headed to the spa to check out the traditional Indonesian herbal beauty treatments and massage therapy. After a relaxing massage I had to the sauna and then to the pool, which is chilled for an extra shock. After the spa I then went out to PJ’s for lunch. PJ’s features fish and seafood, as well as a wood burning oven, pizza, pasta, and a bar. After lunch it was back to the villa and straight to the pool where a nap by the pool took up most of my afternoon.
I got up in time to use the garden shower before heading out to Taman Wantilan for dinner. Taman Wantilan features a view of Jimbaran Bay and Bali’s distant volcanoes. The food was excellent and when I mentioned this to my waiter I found out about the cooking class offered by the executive chef. This was something I had to do before I left.
Day 3
I had breakfast at PJ’s this morning and decided to spend the morning at what has been named Bali’s best beach. The water sports center offers a range of wind surfers, catamarans, sea canoes, boogie boards, snorkeling equipment and bicycles, although I brought all I needed: a book and a towel.
For lunch I ate a salad at the Pool Terrace Café before taking a long walk around the gardens and the beach. After my walk I inquired about the cooking class and was able to get in one. The chef shared some specialty recipes with us as well as some pointers in the kitchen. I was given an apron and a cookbook while we ate what we prepared in class. It was an interesting approach to dinner and I had so much fun doing it.
After class I went back to my villa to get cleaned up and get my bags ready to head out in the morning. I packed up and had a relaxing a drink by the pool. As I looked out at the sunset on Jimbaran Bay I wished the bay, the sea, and the mountains of Bali goodnight…
